Steeped in history, the atmospheric Dirleton Castle is not to be missed. Set among stunning gardens, this medieval masterpiece dates back to the 13^th Century. The imposing fortress was captured by English forces during the Scottish Wars of Independence and has served as residence for a number of noble families. For lunch we travel southwards down the picturesque Scottish East Coast to North Berwick, a delightful seaside town with pretty beaches and a great selection of shops, restaurants and cafes. Tantallon Castle is our final stop, this formidable stronghold provides spectacular views out to the North Sea. Perched dramatically on the edge of the East Lothian coastline, this photogenic beauty is recognised as the last of the grand medieval castles.
